FantasyTeamNames Tagging System
As many of you know we recently released a new version of the site. Our little fantasy team names site grew much faster than we thought it was going to and we decided we needed some new features to make the site more user-friendly. The new version has some new features that make for a better user experience, such as the ability to sort team names by highest rated over the last month and week and the ability to pull a random list of team names from the database. We also added a Tagging system to make it a bit easier to navigate through our ever growing list of names.
We set out some standard tags that we feel are the most common categories but also gave users the ability to add any tags that you want. The common tags are Player-Related, Pun/Word Play, Celebrity-Related, Coach-Related, Funny, Gross, and Sexual. I'm not sure how this reflects on us as a community, lol, but we found that most team names submitted to the site fall into one or more of these categories. Most people have been using the common tags effectively. Player-Related (318), Funny (241), and Pun/Word Play (180) already have a ton of content since the tags were implemented. Here's a link to the full Tags Page.
The "Add Your Own Tag" feature has also been quite popular, although not very useful so far. Many users are copying what they put in the team name field in the tag field. This is not very helpful in cases where there won't be more than one team name in the newly created category. Some quality examples of these categories are "Donald Driver is a Munster" and "Goochosaurus Rex." They are, however, good for a chuckle when reading through the Tags list. Also good for a chuckle is the custom category "Applebees." Upon clicking on it a user will find one tagged team name - Harris Smith's Hamhocks (Harris story). A better idea for a custom tag would be "Green Bay Packers" and then tagging any team name relating to the franchise or its players, coaches, and fans into that category. I don't think we've built the system well enough for it to ever work like that. Improving the custom tags may be tops on our list for the next version of the site.
Keep posting those team names! If you have any suggestions for the site feel free to post them in a comment here.
